Post No. SSCF0306.1 - 2 x Business Support Administrator - Social Services

Part-time positions available (2-3 days per week). Working hours and days will be discussed and agreed upon at interview.

We are looking to appoint both a permanent part-time Administrator and a temporary part-time Administrator to work in the Business Support Team within Social Services supporting Children's and Young People's Services in Newport City Council.

Newport City Council strives to support and protect children to stay at home with their families in a safe and caring environment. Sometimes families need additional support from Children’s Services and other services to help them build and maintain healthy relationships.

The role of an administrator within the team is diverse, involving various administrative tasks throughout the day. For example, coordinating meetings, raising orders, inputting data into databases, and processing payments. Given the nature of the position, it is crucial that the successful candidate has a proven track record in minute-taking, with experience in this area to be discussed in greater detail during the interview.

There is no ‘type’ of person that we are looking for. No matter your background, if you have excellent problem-solving skills, a good eye for detail and effective time management skills, you’ll have all the makings of an excellent administrator. We are looking for those who are keen to develop their existing knowledge and experience and who want to learn new skills. The ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines is also required.

If you are organised, methodical and pro-active, you already have some of the key skills we are looking for. You will have experience of using all Microsoft Office packages, a high level of accuracy, and it would be expected that the successful candidate would handle all information received with tact and discretion, and in accordance with Data Protection requirements.

Staff in this team work both independently from home and in the office at the Civic Centre in Newport. The successful candidate must therefore be able to manage their time effectively, prioritise tasks, and complete their work within timescales. You will need to have a suitable and quiet area at home to work in. Free parking during office hours is provided for staff who work in the Civic Centre.

Benefits of working for Newport City Council include: 26 days annual leave (pro rata) in your first year (in addition to statutory Bank Holidays), membership of Local Government Pension Scheme, cycle purchase scheme and discounted gym membership and discount card scheme with access to retail, travel and holiday offers.

We welcome applications for all our jobs in either Welsh or English. An application submitted in Welsh will not be treated less favourably than an application submitted in English.

Newport City Council is committed to working towards its workforce being more representative of the population that we serve and particularly welcomes applications from people from minority ethnic communities represented (or living) in the city. Selection will be made on ability and skills to undertake the role.

Newport City Council is not currently supporting applicants with sponsorship for right to work. In applying for a vacancy, applicants should already have the right to work in the UK.

Our values – Fairness for all, Making a difference, Being responsible, Working together

Ein gwerthoedd – Tegwch i Bawb, Gwneud Gwahaniaeth, Bod yn Gyfrifol, Gweithio gyda'n gilydd
